Fellows got a jump-start on generating short- and long-term enterprise stories around five critical topics: education; child welfare and foster care; economics and working families; juveniles and crime; and emerging science in child and adolescent development.
This conference examined realities and common myths about immigrants and the underclass, and the implications of growing diversity.
Sessions included in-depth discussions about trends in family life and childhood; parents' anxieties; cheating, school pressures and alternate paths to achievement; "emerging adulthood"; real and perceived dangers facing children; gaming and blogs; and connecting with young sources.
Sessions featured in-depth discussions on the latest pediatric medical advances; the rising toll from health issues including obesity, asthma, mental illness, sexually transmitted diseases and abuse; and trends in health coverage. Events included field trips to the National Institutes of Health, a school-based clinic and a pediatric ER.
