The Obama Administration has established a goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020. Currently, according to U.S. Department of Education Data, 42.3 percent of young adults have completed an associate’s degree or higher. The U.S. Department of Education released a United States Education Dashboard online tool in February 2011 to show indicators of progress toward this national goal.
The Dashboard presents data on access to preschool programs, K-12 achievement levels, high school graduation rates and postsecondary enrollment rates. Graphic comparisons of the data and state-by-state comparison pages of the data are also available.
The data are from the Institute of Education Sciences, ED Facts, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Data Center, the Grant Award Database, the Federal Student Aid Center and ED Data Express. Additionally, data are drawn solely from the public school sector; the Dashboard does not present data on private schooling.
