First Focus’s third annual guide examines over 180 children’s programs funded by the federal government.
Children’s programs vary from child health and education to child welfare and juvenile justice. President Obama’s fiscal year 2011 budget proposes more than $30 billion dollars over current levels, contributing to a 10.1 increase. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 added critical funds to children’s programs, according to the report. However, funding is scheduled to end as soon as this year and reauthorizations for key legislation like the Elementary and Second Education Act and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families have yet to pass.
First Focus is a bipartisan advocacy organization that strives to make children and families a priority in federal policy and budget decisions
